The Chemnitz Department of Anglistik/Amerikanistik stands out for its comprehensive approach to the study of English. It is one of the few places in Germany where Linguistics and Literary Studies are complemented by British and American Studies as an academic field of its own.

The teaching programme offers regular courses on social, economic, political and cultural issues in Britain and the United States (and occasionally in other English speaking countries). B.A. and M. A. students may specialise on British and American Studies for their final examinations. The same applies to doctoral students.
