Professur für Großbritannienstudien: Prof. Dr. Thomas Kühn

The introduction of special professorships for Cultural Studies (alongside the traditional ones for literature, linguistics and didactics) in the modern languages is a special feature of the Technische Universität Dresden and other Saxon universities. Research and teaching in British Cultural Studies extends to the cultures of the British Isles as well as to those of postcolonial English-speaking countries except North America, for which there is another professorship.

Lectures provide overviews of the relations between politics, economy, social life and culture in the narrower sense of the word in the different historical epochs since the 16th century while seminars focus on special issues from various fields of culture. We always endeavour to supplement the syllabus by inviting guest professors as well as writers of colleagues of other universities for single lectures.

From April 2002 until March 2007 we were running a student and staff exchange programme with the University of Pune/ India (ISAP), which has been replaced by an exchange programme with the English and Foreign Languages University (EFL University) in Hyderabad, India, from 2007 onwards financed by the DAAD.
