British Literature: Prof. Dr. Aleida Assmann, Prof. Dr. Silvia Mergenthal
American Literature: Prof. Dr. Reingard M. Nischik

The study of British and American Literature(s) at the University of Konstanz has always been embedded in the interdisciplinary Department of Literature (Fachbereich Literaturwissenschaft). In recent years, the University of Konstanz has been among the first universities in Germany to pioneer BA/MA courses, among them British and American Studies, Gender Studies, and Literature-Arts-Media (LKM). Introduced in the 2003/4 winter term, and to be followed by MA courses from 2006/7 onwards, British and American Studies will lead students to an internationally recognised and compatible BA degree in three years. All BA and MA courses in British and American Studies are taught in English.

The BA course British and American Studies has literature, culture, linguistics, and language components and includes both survey courses (for instance British Literature and Culture I and II, American Literature and Culture I and II), and in-depth courses on individual authors, periods, genres, and themes.

For information on the courses taught at Konstanz, on faculty members, and their research interests and affiliations see www.uni-konstanz.de/ang-ame.
