Teaching:
History of Great Britian and Ireland from early modern times to contemporary, with a particular focus on the history of gender

Research:
Historical constellations, in which gender loses its alleged unambiguousness
Current Project: British women in gender-heterogeneous air raid defence units

Students are required to take at least three courses/seminars in British Studies as a mandatory part of all BA, MA and teacher training programmes; more details on British Study course offerings and British Study research interests of faculty members are accessible on the department's website.

British Studies has been present as a section within the English Department since the late 1970s. The current focus in teaching is on central aspects of UK modern history, contemporary UK politics & society and on UK cultures and their representations.
