At the University of Rostock, British Cultural Studies is an autonomous and compulsory part of all degree programmes offered by the Department of English, i.e. of the B.A., M.A. and teacher training programmes. The field is represented by Prof. Dr. Gabriele Linke and Dr. Holger Rossow.

Major areas of research are New Labour, discourses of globalisation (Rossow), autobiographical texts and media studies, especially representations of diaspora, hybridity, and post-coloniality in film and press (Linke).

Areas of teaching comprise globalisation and Cultural Studies, nationalism, national identity and multiculturalism (Rossow) as well as British social and cultural history (19th and 20th century), women's history, media representations of gender/Scotland/ethnicity (Linke). Prof. Linke also offers courses in TEFL, especially on various aspects of teaching culture, such as handling stereotypes, or teaching culture through media.

Series editor: Prof. Linke and Dr. Rossow are members of the editorial board of anglistik & englischunterricht (with Prof. Merle Tönnies).
