Transcultural Anglophone Studies at the University of Saarland
'Transcultural Anglophone Studies' at the University of Saarland focuses on nation states formed in the wake of British colonialism. In its treatment of Anglophone literatures, cultures, and the many linguistic varieties of English as an international language, it covers the following geographical areas:

  • a) The African continent, the Caribbean, the Pan-Pacific, South Asia, and South-East Asia
  • b) The diasporas of the formerly colonized countries as found under a), as well as in the UK and North America

Among the key aspects of activity at Saarbrücken are the creation of library resources for primary and secondary TAS texts for students and interested academics, the compilation of study information for students, and the collection and critical annotation of teaching material for school teachers. The curriculum engages with issues such as, among others, polycultural British writing, Anglophone Indian novels and plays, Anglophone African fiction, intermedial approaches, and intertextuality, as for example, in post-colonial Shakespeare adaptations.
