The BA and MA programmes in English and American Studies at Wuppertal University offer students excellent study conditions in a research-oriented environment. Students have the opportunity to focus on Britain within a curriculum that integrates literary and cultural studies, postcolonial studies and media and memory studies.

All courses emphasize theoretical and methodical aspects of analysing, interpreting and contextualising both aesthetic products (e.g., novels, plays or films) and the representation of key aspects of British, Scottish and Irish cultures in their historical dimension (e.g., British monarchy, cultural heritage, British Empire, multicultural society).

The department of English and American studies has various partner universities in Britain and Ireland, facilitating the exchange of students who wish to study abroad.
